Extracurricular Activities

Students in kindergarten through eighth-grade are given many opportunities to further develop their talents and hobbies while making productive use of their time after school. These engaging activities are run by our school faculty and staff or by experts from our community.

Prince of Peace is proud to sponsor the Katie M. King Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. This honor society promotes scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship in our middle school students.

  • Each spring, middle school students are invited to apply to NJHS if they have met the minimum grade point average of 3.80 GPA. Standards for selection are established by the national office of NJHS and have been revised to meet our local chapter needs.

  • Following the National Junior Honor Society constitution, students in grades six, seven, and eight are invited to apply for membership by meeting the academic requirements. Students who meet the criterion must complete an application that provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidate’s qualifications. To evaluate a candidate’s character, the Faculty Council uses two forms of input. First, school disciplinary records are reviewed. Second, members of the faculty are solicited for input regarding their professional reflections on a candidate’s service activities, character, citizenship, and leadership. Finally, student applications are reviewed and students are selected to be members by the Faculty Council. Students and their families are notified of their acceptance and are inducted into NJHS at a ceremony in late spring.

  • Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all five criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes regular attendance at chapter meetings held during the school year and participation in chapter service projects.
