Students who join the band are provided with an entire life of joy and love of music. Band students play at various events like school masses, POP basketball games, and occasional concerts.
This course introduces students to the basics of film analysis, cinematic formal elements, genre, and narrative structure and helps students develop the skills to recognize, analyze, describe, and enjoy film as an art and entertainment form.
Students in this class work with their brains and their hands to learn how to solve problems in the house, in the community, or in unique situations.
Students learn and practice a variety of methods to de-stress and relax as they discover what type of a learner and student they are.
The musical theater group practices year-round for their annual performance of a beloved classic. Previous years have brought performances of Frozen, Alladin, and Mary Poppins.
The school robotics group, RoboPOP, learns foundational programming skills and builds working bots using VEX kits in order to compete in local-area robotics competitions.
The Scholar’s Bowl is a competitive, academic activity for which players practice and then represent POP at tournaments.
In STEM, students develop the 5 Cs of 21st Century Skills—critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and computational thinking—by creating solutions to real-world problems.
All students automatically have a study hall period incorporated into their schedule unless they decide to enroll in Band or Robotics. Students use Study Hall to catch up on school work, organize for upcoming assessments, and complete homework.
Students have the opportunity to develop and strengthen good study habits and learning strategies through various instructional methods, with the goal of reinforcing concepts presented in the core curriculum.
Students in this elective are assigned an early childhood class. They assist the teacher with centers and work with children on a one-to-one basis. This is a great elective for students considering teaching as a career.
